Pre - 2018
The prior owner VZZ had sold the original vineyard name of Gravity Hill Vineyard. VZZ farmed the nameless property for high yields and sold to a variety of local winemakers, J. Lohr being the largest customer. They used the grapes in their Gestures line of wines, sold to club members and in their tasting room. 2013 was VZZ's last harvest.
With the purchase of G2, Bill reduced acreage allocated to J. Lohr, ultimately cancelling their contract after 4 years. 2017 was their last G2 harvest. J. Lohr was a great group of people and great to work with, but Bill desired having all of G2 focused on organic ultra premium, low yield farmed grapes. Another early customer was Linne Calodo, 2014-2017. As their own estate grapes developed, they needed less grapes from outside sources.
Initially working with Saxum and other new customers, Bill divided the property into custom farmed G2 blocks, leaving the rest to be farmed and sold by the ton to J. Lohr, without using the G2 name. Though not custom farmed, yields were reduced, farming practices improved, and quality increased. It was a re-start for everyone. Starting with the 2018 vintage, there are no red grapes farmed to lessor standards.
